Cruise 2022 – Madeira

Saturday 8th January – At Sea

Yesterday the sea was very rough but fortunately I now seem to have got my 'sea legs', so it's not too much of a problem. This morning as we exit the Bay of Biscay, according to the captain, it has 'calmed down' to gale force 8. He also said it will fall to gale force 7 this afternoon and 5 tomorrow as we approach Tenerife. Still a heavy sea swell though.

The air temperature is a bit warmer down here but unfortunately the conditions outside are preventing the normal external activities. Its nice to have a quick blast out there and get some sea spray on your face though.

I've started the Ukulele course. It's being run by the same people I did it with in 2016. (They are still telling the same jokes too). They are going to split us into beginners and an advanced group for those like me who have done it before, so I might get home sounding like George Formby, you never no.

Not too many photo opportunities at present so I thought I would include one of the cabin today. The sliding doors give me a quick exit onto the promenade deck. The glass is one way mirror, you can't see in even when all the the lights are on inside.

I've just been to one of the talks about the places we are going to. I've decided just to have a walk around the town and harbour at Santa Cruz tomorrow (Later: on Monday, not Tomorrow!). It looks like a nice place. It will probably feel funny with the ground beneath keeping still after all this movement.

9 out of 15 in the quiz last night. I think we peaked the night before. The show was cancelled due to the rocking and rolling. The main act was going to be a female singer. She would probably have fallen off the stage so health and safety put a stop to it. Shame really (only joking).
