Cruise 2023 – South America

Sat 14th Jan 2023: At Sea

Not a lot to report at present. Apart from our brief stop at Horta, we have now been at sea for well over a week and basically that’s all we have seen, the sea.

Don’t get me wrong, there is plenty to do and I’m having a great time, the days are simply flying by, and I like the sea. But it has been rough, very rough, and it still is. I’ve not seen a whale or a dolphin and until yesterday not even another ship so when one appeared in the distance, I took a photo.

It’s a Long Way Off, and in the Sunshine

It’s now 11pm. Tomorrow we dock at Bermuda at 9am, but we are currently in a force 9 gale, and the vase is going to slide off the table any minute……

If you see any icebergs (I know, wrong pole for polar bears) spare a thought for Les Barker, who I believe died today after a heart attack. Very sad.

Did you receive the email I sent you about the couple who are folk enthusiasts from Sussex on your boat? (Or do I have to call it a ship? what’s the difference?)

Hi Derek. Yes I did get your email thanks. I’m looking out for Ronnie and Sally although there are 800 passengers so it’s not easy.

(You can put a boat on a ship but you can’t put a ship on a boat.)

PS I love gales at sea, at least in a large ship with stabilisers which you can be pretty sure of not to sink

That’s what they said about the Titanic wasn’t it?

I wonder if ship’s time is always GMT or do they change the clocks as they journey further west ? You begin to realise just how much of the earth’s surface is water, once you go fpor days without seeing any land. B ermuda eh? Sounds ….. tax efficient. xx

The ships clocks change by an hour every few days so we have to change our watches at the same time. If you forget you wonder where everyone is when you go down for breakfast!
We change again tonight and will then be 5 hours behind you.
The journey out is great as we keep gaining an hour. Not so on the homeward leg.
