Cruise 2023 – South America

Tues 24th Jan 2023: Tour of the Balmoral Galley

The Hotel Manager had arranged our privileged visit to the Balmoral Galley. He introduced us to the head chef who gave us a guided tour of his domain.

When we first joined the ship the Captain lined his senior officers on the stage so they could introduce themselves. They all wore dark blue uniforms except for the head chef who stood out in his all white chef’s gear with a very high chef’s hat. One by one the officers described their roles but when it got to the head chef there was a slight pause, which caused a laugh as his role was quite obvious. Milking the moment he said: “I clean the windows”.

Our tour was equally interesting and entertaining.

The first port of call was the very secure wine store. When asked who holds the key he immediately pulled it out of his pocket.

This cook makes all the sandwiches on his own
Impressively clean and well organised

Fortunately the key came out of his pocket again and we were treated to a glass or two of bubbly.

Later that evening:

The dress theme was “nautical”, so the cook (or sailor’s) hat (on the left) came in handy.

PS: I’ve already been to the Galapagos. It was fantastic! I’ve got hundreds of photos and will put a few of them on as soon as possible but I’m off to the Atacama desert for four nights on Thursday and our internet is very slow so it may be a while before you see them.
