Cruise 2023 – South America

Thurs 9th Mar 2023: Salvador

After dinner on Wednesday evening our excellent and likable guide, Bruno, announced that he would be catching a very early flight back to Rio and, as he would be gone before sunrise, he bid us farewell that evening.

So we said our goodbyes and gave him a customary but well deserved tip. However, to our amazement, he appeared at breakfast the following morning!

Had he overslept and missed the flight? No, it transpired that our generous tips sufficiently supplemented his own money to enable him to get a longer flight, and to visit his family for his birthday on Friday. A nice treat for a decent bloke!

The dancers above were performing a dance style called capoeira. This is thought to have been created during the 16th century by enslaved people, as a way to by-pass laws prohibiting them from celebrating their cultural customs and practicing martial arts.

That evening the ship departed for Recife, our last port of call in South America.
