Our visit commenced with a boat cruise along the Yarra River.

Melbourne Skydeck
After the river tour we walked to the Skydeck tower.
The tower has, at 285 metres, the highest observation deck in the Southern Hemisphere. The lift took just 38 seconds to reach it on the 88th floor.
The views were amazing, unless of course you have a fear of heights.

We could see Albert Park Lake with the Grand Prix track around it’s perimeter.

There was also a stadium where they play that bat and ball game that Haydn understands.

Later we drove past the bat and ball stadium.

Then we had a walk around Fitzroy Gardens where ‘Cook’s Cottage’ is located. It was built in 1755 in the Yorkshire village of Great Ayton by the parents of Captain James Cook but moved piece by piece and reconstructed in Melbourne in 1934.

Shrine of Remembrance
Later we visited the Shrine of Remembrance with it’s surrounding 13 hectares of parkland and breath-taking views of the city.

Grand Prix Circuit
Finally, we drove along part of the circuit which was being prepared for the Australian Grand Prix to be held in just over a weeks time.

Back onboard I had some good news. My flying flamingo picture, taken in the Atacama desert, had won me first place in the ship’s photographic competition. I’m quite chuffed.
Then we set sail for Hobart in Tasmania, due to be there on Saturday 8th March.
