Early on Sunday we arrived at Port Louis in Mauritius. The day started with a journey by road across the island to its west coast followed by a short boat trip out to the beautiful Île aux Cerfs.

A battery powered boat took us out, past mangrove swamps, to the island.

I thought the sea urchins with their sharp spines were being harvested just to protect bathers but apparently they are also considered to be a local delicacy. Needless to say, I declined the offer on this occasion.

I spent most of the morning swimming and lounging in the warm, crystal clear, water in the coral-reefed lagoon.

After a superb three course barbeque lunch, I set off for a walk around part of the island. The trees provided welcome shade in the heat of the day.

The views were stunning.
Of course I kept an eye out for the elusive Mauritius kestrel but it somehow managed to elude me.

After a most enjoyable day in Mauritius, that evening we set sail for a short overnight voyage to Reunion Island. The two islands are just 143 miles apart but the landscapes and cultures are very different.
